GEOL-G 466: Hydrometeorology

Course Goals

Students who complete the course should be able to:

  • Summarize the physical processes by which clouds are formed and hydrometeors are produced in convective storms and weather systems
  • Generalize those principles and apply them to meteorological scenarios in which heavy rain occurs
  • Compare and contrast the ways in which meteorology and hydrology interact during flood events
  • Critique our historical ability to estimate and to forecast rainfall
  • Analyze the strengths and weaknesses of our current hydrometeorological observing systems
  • Appraise the evolving role that polarimetric radar plays in our measurement and estimation of rainfall
